PRP for Hair Fall: What to Expect Before and After Your First Session

If you’ve been researching options for hair thinning, you’ve likely come across PRP — platelet-rich plasma therapy. It’s one of the more commonly discussed treatments for early to moderate hair fall, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Here’s a straightforward look at what it actually involves.
What PRP Is
PRP uses a small sample of your own blood, which is processed to concentrate the platelets — cells rich in growth factors — before being injected into the scalp. The idea is to support the natural hair growth cycle in areas of thinning.
Before Your First Session
Dr. Jain will first assess your scalp and hair loss pattern, and in many cases recommend blood investigations to rule out contributing factors like thyroid imbalance or nutritional deficiency. PRP works best as part of a diagnosis-led plan, not as a stand-alone fix for every type of hair loss.
What Happens During a Session
A small blood sample is drawn, processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma, and then injected into the scalp using fine needles. The session itself typically takes under an hour.
Recovery and Aftercare
Most people experience mild scalp tenderness or redness for a day or two afterward. There’s no significant downtime — most patients return to their normal routine the same day, with any specific aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Jain.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
PRP is generally done as a course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by periodic maintenance. The exact schedule depends on your individual diagnosis and response, which is why an in-person consultation is the right starting point.
